Antique Jennens & Bettridge Style Mother of Pearl Papier Mache Tilt Top Table. Very rare antique English Victorian hand-painted and pearl inlaid lacquered papier mâché occasional table, attributed to the papier ma^che’ tray maker, Jennens & Bettridge. It is inlaid with flakes of mother of pearl and also retains its original hand painted floral design with gilt highlights around the edge and along the perimeter of the base. Jennens & Bettridge worked approx 1814-64, therefore this tray table (made from what appears to be an upside down tray form) is likely Circa 1850-64. Some “age chips” under top edge noted as well as a short crack in the papier mâché base. It retains its original cast iron “trefid” feet. The base has some weight for stability. There is the number’13’ handwritten to the underside of the table top and on the plinth, but the number’14’ to the underside of the bottom. Latch still original and in good working condition. Overall in excellent antique condition, very rare considering the age and materials. This item came from a Victorian House here in the Yorkshire Dales, as are some of my other items which I have listed. Height table down : 68cm. Height table up : 104cm. Table top Width :64cm.
